DEBATABLE DEATH

Debatable Death is mainstream fiction. There are four significant characters whose interactions are fascinating.

• Louise Dishman: Cody’s wife, a manipulative woman who blames their daughter’s accidental death on Cody, divorces him and takes great pleasure in making his life as miserable as can be.

• Regina Applegate: Cody’s research assistant who feels privileged to work for someone so brilliant and dedicated

Cody has invested productive years of research in a measurement methodology that could predict the onset of arterial blockage anywhere in the body. Riley, whose company is years behind in developing something similar, uses his influence to shut down Cody’s funding. When Cody learns about this, he appeals to Riley. Riley is arrogant and insulting, taking distinct pleasure in inflicting pain. Cody’s research is blocked.

Cody channels his energies into other research. A competitor becomes aware of Cody’s progressive research. They appeal to Regina to provide them inside information, promising to take care of her brother’s enormous medical bills. Reluctantly, she agrees.

One afternoon, Cody goes to his ex-wife’s house to deliver a check. She is on a ladder and as nasty as ever. Frustrated, Cody kicks the ground. His follow through accidentally hits the ladder, causing Louise to lose her balance and fall. She lands on the edge of a shovel and dies instantly. Cody, in a panic, leaves without calling the police.

Later, Russell, who has been dating Louise, comes by to pick her up. When she doesn’t answer the front door, he peers in the side window and then goes into the back yard. Discovering her body, he leaves. However, an eyewitness and his fingerprints tie him to the crime and he is convicted of it.

Debatable Death is about how each of the remaining three characters deals with this situation. How they do so and the outcome of this development is both heart-pounding and surprising. It is certain to intrigue and entertain the reader.
